New Jersey Gas Stations Sued For Selling Aviation Fuel As Gasoline

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – New Jersey consumer affairs officials have sued six gas stations they claim briefly sold aviation fuel as ordinary motor gasoline late last year.

Authorities say a probe by the Office of Weights and Measures found the stations sold the fuel from Dec. 6-8.

The stations are located in North Plainfield, Trenton, Manasquan, Lawrenceville and Scotch Plains. The lawsuit announced Tuesday also names their parent company, a fuel distributor and fuel transporter.

Officials say the sales were discovered after an employee of the terminal where the fuel was being held in Bayonne learned from a transportation driver that aviation fuel was being delivered to the gas stations.

The aviation fuel contained toxic lead that could damage the vehicles, but say it doesn’t appear any cars were affected.
